How to Simply and Intuitively Identify the Quality of HPMC

(1) Whiteness: Although whiteness cannot determine the usability of HPMC, the addition of whitening agents during the production process can affect its quality. However, most good products have good whiteness.

(2) Fineness: Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose generally has a fineness of 80 and 100 mesh, with less fineness of 120 mesh. Most HPMCs produced in Hebei have a fineness of 80 mesh. The finer the fineness, the better it is generally.

(3) Transmittance: Put hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) into water to form a transparent colloid,and observe its transmittance. The higher the transmittance, the better, indicating that there is less insoluble matter inside. The transmittance of vertical reactors is generally good, while that of horizontal reactors is poorer. However, it cannot be said that the quality of vertical reactor production is better than that of horizontal reactor production, and there are many factors that determine product quality.

(4) Specific gravity: The larger the specific gravity, the heavier the better. More significant, usually because the content of hydroxypropyl group inside is high. If the content of hydroxypropyl group is high, it is better to retain water.

(5) Burning: Take a small portion of the sample and ignite it with fire. The white residue is ash, and the more white material, the worse the quality. Pure goods have almost no residue.
