Lithium Carbonate End Uses

2023-11-24 11:02

Lithium carbonate is a carbonate of lithium, with a molecular formula of Li2CO3, a molecular weight of 73.891, a melting point of 720°C, a boiling point of 1342°C, a density of 2.11g/cm3, and a white powder appearance. It is an inorganic compound, colorless monoclinic crystal, slightly soluble in water and dilute acid, and insoluble in ethanol and acetone. It is used as a raw material for ceramics, glass (1552, -81.00, -4.96%), ferrite, etc., and components are sprayed with silver paste. It is used medically to treat depression.

According to the end use, lithium carbonate can be divided into industrial grade lithium carbonate and battery grade lithium carbonate. The two are different in purity. The purity of battery-grade lithium carbonate is higher than that of industrial-grade lithium carbonate. Generally, those with a lithium carbonate content of 98%-99% are industrial-grade lithium carbonate, and those with a lithium carbonate content of ≥99.5% are battery-grade lithium carbonate.

The application ranges of industrial-grade lithium carbonate and battery-grade lithium carbonate are also quite different. Battery-grade lithium carbonate is mainly used in new energy lithium batteries. Industrial-grade lithium carbonate is mainly used in traditional ceramics, glass and other industries. Industrial-grade lithium carbonate and battery-grade lithium carbonate are mainly used in new energy lithium batteries. Compared with lithium carbonate, it has lower purity and more impurities. It cannot be directly used as the cathode material of lithium batteries. It can be applied to lithium batteries only after purification and preparation are performed to increase the purity of lithium carbonate.

Because battery-grade lithium carbonate has higher purity, the price will also be higher than industrial-grade lithium carbonate.
